About

Spending an entire childhood breathless, and a terminal diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension arriving at 18, Haley’s life experiences differ vastly from her age group. To live past eight years is to be considered a long-term survivor of pulmonary hypertension and Haley has made it to twelve.

“Even before Covid and much so after do we have a very difficult time even addressing or acknowledging disability outside of inspiration and our internalized ableism. How people respond to my work and what their takeaways are tell me everything I need to know about where they sit when it comes to disease and sickness. I like to remind people that no one is free from the wrath of disease and disability, at least while existing in these very human bodies.”

A merge of worlds between the energy of creation and art versus science and medicine is the passion that drives this body of work. Haley states “my hyper fixation on survival informs much of my work, and it assists in processing my complex post traumatic stress disorder. My muse has become introducing people to the beauty of their bodies and the uncomfortable reality of disability.”
